B.E.S.T Parents (For Kids)
Since the launch of our popular evidence-based group program, BEST Kids in 2018, we have been contacted by parents and community groups to provide additional parenting support.
Christine Harding, the Principal Psychologist at Hargan Psychology and creator of BEST Kids, has looked at the evidence, researched current parenting issues, and listened to the many parents, caregivers, and educators involved with Hargan Psychology.
With all of that valuable information, BEST Parents (for Kids) has been developed.
BEST Parents (for Kids) has 5 session programs pre-recorded to ensure that busy parents and caregivers can access the online format at their convenience. Enrolment in either of the BEST Parents programs provides ongoing fortnightly Q&A opportunities with Christine Harding.
Being a parent is not easy, regardless of our young person’s developmental stage or age; as we know, there is no easy manual to provide instructions!
BEST Parents provide additional tools in a parenting ‘toolbox’ to assist when faced with challenging situations or behaviours evidenced by young people.
- Aligned Parenting
- Parenting Styles
- Identifying Parenting values/goals
- Aligning Parenting Goals
- Impact of our own parenting
- Intergenerational trauma
- Parental MHI
- Emotion Regulation
- Managing Meltdowns
- Problem solving
- Emotional Resilience
- Encouraging autonomy; charts, rewards, contracts
- Individual Self-care
- Couple care
What are we aiming to achieve with the program?
At the conclusion of the 5 session program, it is expected that parents/caregivers will feel more aligned with their spouses/partners and others co-caring for their young people.
Further, parents will have developed more significant insight into their own triggers and the impact of their own development, obtain more tools and strategies to assist in their parenting role, and learn of the importance of self-care and couple-care.
BEST Kids social skills program has been running from our Hawthorn practice each Saturday morning, during the term, and mid-week during school holidays for the past 3 years.
During the years of facilitating BEST kids, Christine and the psychology team noted that at the ‘graduation’ (conclusion of the 6-sessions) of our BEST Kids program, many parents and caregivers reported that, despite the worksheets and strategies shared, they still did not feel confident in their parenting role. Parents/carers/educators have consistently requested that our BEST Parents program be available.
The demand was consistent with the comments we have received since commencing our private psychology practice, Hargan Psychology in 2019.
Christine and her growing team of psychologists have had the opportunity to work alongside parents, grandparents, carers, educators, and community case managers in supporting our young clients.
We often ask our parents…
‘DID YOU DISCUSS WHETHER TO GET MARRIED? DID YOU DISCUSS WHETHER TO HAVE CHILDREN? DID YOU EVEN DISCUSS WHERE TO HONEYMOON?’
BUT…DID YOU EVER TALK ABOUT HOW YOU WOULD PARENT?
This is not a judgement. However, unaligned or inconsistent parenting is a common issue leading to confusion that puts strain on individuals, marriages/relationships.
The BEST Parents programs endeavour to add further skills in parenting toolboxes, to support participants in understanding the impact of our own parenting, to recognise unaligned values, to understand child development, and importantly, to ensure that parents are exercising their own care.
Our BEST Parents programs are recorded to ensure they can be accessed when convenient; worksheets are emailed (or posted if preferred) at enrolment in the program.
To ensure parents/caregivers are adequately supported, Christine will provide live Q&A sessions each fortnight to address any parenting issues or answer/explore any further queries that may arise during or after completion of the program.
Christine and her team have worked with many children and families and recognise that early intervention to potential issues is the key to our young people getting the best start in their future trajectory.
We would be pleased to be a part of your parenting or caregiving journey in supporting your young people to Live their BEST Life.
FAQ’s you have heard or expect to hear from prospective clients.
How much does the program cost?
The cost of the five session program is $500; this includes the five recorded sessions, worksheets which are emailed at enrolment and ongoing fortnightly lives with Christine Harding for the purpose of Q&As.
